A Word from the Principal
Year after another, our ZSIS elementary school’s department flourishes both socially
and academically. These basic elementary school years, I believe, are very crucial
in the course of preparing our students for the upcoming school and life events.
The progress I can perceive among elementary students throughout each year assures
me how fruitful our work has been. Those students’ overgrowing interests and learning
styles help me foresee the future ranks each one of them is going to hold one day.
Progress in the major areas of child’s development (physical, intellectual, emotional,
and social) is gradual at those elementary grade levels. Yet, changes would grow
so evident and dramatic as the child paves his/her way through the further intermediate
grade levels. I do find great joy at witnessing that progress day by day.
Last, I feel an overwhelming gratitude for all the elementary school’s staff members
whose great dedication and expertise have boosted our students’ performance at all
levels.
Mrs. Dima Moubayed Administrative Principal (Gr. 1-3)
The Upper-elementary School teachers work together to provide a stimulating and
positive environment in which children learn, grow and appreciate cultural diversities.
We believe in an inquiry-based approach to the process of learning that emphasises
creative and critical thinking. We recognise and address the broad range of developmental
needs of children aged 6 to 10 years. We support these needs by assisting students
in the transition from the homelike atmosphere of Early Childhood learning to a
proper schooling system, encouraging positive social interaction with peers and
providing opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes
necessary for life-long learning and successful social interactions. We value the
importance of maintaining close communications with families to promote the development
of scholarly qualities.
Introduction
In keeping with the school's stated philosophy, developing the child's scholastic
abilities start's in the Upper-elementary School. Our program encourages continuous
learning. It teaches students to develop the fundamental skills necessary for independent
learning and successful problem solving. Teachers provide learning experiences,
which are appropriate to a student's age, learning readiness and stage of development.
We take a developmental, student-centered approach to instruction that capitalizes
on each student's strengths and supports each student's weaknesses. The school fosters
a warm, caring learning environment with freedom of expression and respect for others
as key elements. The academic program covers the subjects of Mathematics, English/Language
Arts, Science, Social Studies, Arabic, Islamic Studies (Muslim students only), French,
Art, Computer, Physical Education, Library, and Extra -Curricular Activities. We
provide additional support for children who are learning English as an additional
language. The Upper-elementary School teachers offer a collaborative, team-based
approach to design and implement modifications that support student learning.
